Mock Up Front Covers
This is the first front cover that was created. All that was done was placed over the image.
I don't think that this front cover is very effective as the masthead isnt even placed in the centre and some of the text is hard to read. I don't really like the choices of font. To develop the front cover I shall change the fonts and make the background a solid colour.
After creating the first mock up I decided that the background of the image took focus away from the text, so I decided to make the background all white, this also made the magazine look more professional. The masthead in the first mock up was not in the center of the page so I made sure it was this time and changed the colour and font. I also placed the masthead behind the models head so some of the letters are not entirely seen. I have seen this in real magazines when doing my research so I decided to see how it worked out in my own magazine, I like the effect.

Shoot Location
As the magazine is based on urban music such as rap we decided we needed to do our shoot in an area that had urban scenery and was close to us. At first we was going to do it in Gossmore Park in Marlow but then decided that area may not be best and later changed the location to Higginson Park skate park in Marlow. We thought that this location may be better as it has lots of graffiti there and things that can be sat on, stood on ect. so we could get more exciting shots.
Find your tribe
You are a Blinger! There’s no ghetto fab for you – just fabulous. You wear your riches on your D & G sleeve. If you’ve got it, why not flaunt it? You love those that do – especially Americans. See heroes Jay-Z and P Diddy: men that aren’t afraid to flash their cash. You might not quite have their bank balances but you can still keep up appearances – your bedroom looks better than some of the ones in Cribs
Analysis
My result for the 'Find Your Tribe' shows that I am interested in urban music and celebs which I agree with. The result of this helped me to decide that my magazine will be based on the Urban music culture as I am interested in it.
Double Page Spread Analysis
Layout: All text is on one page, it is separated into 4 colums. Picture is on one page but stretches onto the other page slightly. Almost entire page is taken up by the big heading of the page which is a quote made by the model. The font of the heading is unusual and stands out.
Image: The image gives a certain image of lily allen, it looks very rock chick looking as she has black hair, heavy eyeliner and the red shirt.
Colour: The colours are all the same, red, white and black the image goes with the colours of the text

Drop capital: The article has a drop capital which is the big D, it makes the page look more interesting and draws the audience into reading the article
Layout: The image is on the left hand side and it spreads along to the right, text is behind the model which goes from left hand side to right. Article is in 3 collums

Contents Analysis
House style –
the magazine contents page in ‘vibe’ magazines nearly always have this style. They have the big v which is in the same font as the masthead on the front covers are. The words ‘features’ and ‘fashion’ are always in the same font as headings for articles so readers can easily find which type of article they want to read, these headings are always present in vibe magazines. There is always a picture situated at the bottom of the page.
Layout –
the word contents is at the top of the page on the right hand side, the text contents is written so that there are 2 letters of the word, then 4 underneath and then another 2, so the words letters are not all in a line like normal words are meant to be laid out. The articles and page numbers are also on the right hand side of the page under the word contents, they are here to fit the shape of the picture, the model (Ciara) has her legs going all the way up the left hand side of the page. I think this layout is effective as the image draws readers to look at the page and as the articles are right next to the picture they may read it.
Lure –
the image used has been carefully selected, it is quite a sexual/ revealing image which would easily attract people to it and the magazine if they were flicking through to see the content.

I think this layout is effective as the image draws readers to look at the page and as the articles are right next to the picture they may read it.

Front Cover Analysis
Masthead – Big red writing stands out over T.I’s hat. The masthead is stretched out the full width of the cover and is positioned at the top of the cover. The masthead font is the biggest size and brightest making it stand out and attract audiences .
Language – The language isn't very formal as the main article quotes T.I and says words such as ‘ain’t’ and ‘snitch’ many people who don’t listen to this particular genre of music that this music is aimed at (hip-hop, rap, R&B and urban music) they may not understand these words. Also their is another article which says ‘Mavado – Gangster for life’ which looks to attract a particular audience and age group as old people would not be interested in gangsters and neither would people that like rock music for example.
Main image – the main image is a medium close up of rapper T.I, the image is in black and white and the background is all white which makes the red surrounding writing stand out and catch the audiences attention. The model is not dressed in usual attire but instead is wearing a trilby hat, some geek glasses and a suit. He looks like an Italian gangster or something.
House style – many of the ‘vibe’ magazines use the similar red, black and white style on their front covers like this one.
List of artists being featured in the magazine – on the right hand side there is a list of a few popular artists, to some people these may be their favourites and it may lure them into buying the magazine so they can read about them.
Barcode – the barcode is used to scan in shops and underneath it is the magazines website.
Masthead – Big black writing stands out. The masthead is stretched out the full width of the cover and is positioned at the top of the cover. The masthead font is the biggest size making it stand out and attract audiences. The masthead is also positioned behind the models.
House style – many of the ‘vibe’ magazines use the similar red, black and white style on their front covers like this one.
Models – The cover models Eminem and 50 cent are positioned on the right hand side of the magazine and then next to them is a big red box which says their names in big red writing to stand out and attract audiences.
Target audience and language - the magazine cover uses informal/slang language that people who use this kind of language will understand. There are words like ‘cool-ass’ to describe holiday gifts. On the skyline there is a article that says ‘Fergie talks smack’ which is very informal and some people may not understand this phrase. They have also abbreviated Philadelphia to philly. The use of this language is clearly aimed at a particular audience.
Sky Line - There is a sky line at the top of the magazine cover which gives an insight to what the magazine will contain, it is at the top because usually that is the 1st thing someone will see if they look at the magazine in a shop and it is behind others that will be the only thing visible.
Masthead – the masthead says ‘vibe’ in the usual font it uses in a sky blue colour. The colour of the font is the same. The model is in front of the text so the letters I and B are not clearly visible.
Colour – the front page of the magazine uses bright, vibrant colours which stand out and could attract potential readers eyes, it is more likely for them to be drawn to a colourful magazine than a dull one as it looks more interesting and readable.
Cover lines – on the right hand side of the cover are some cover lines which list loads of artists that will be featured in the magazine, some people will read this and if they like the artist they may want to buy the magazine, this lures readers in.
Sky line – the sky line uses words which will make the readers want to buy the magazine, it says ‘exclusive on-set report: the making of Notorious 10 B.I.G secrets the film won’t tell’. This has been done cleverly as the use of the words ‘exclusive’ and ‘secrets’ make the person that is reading this want to buy it as ‘exclusive’ means this magazine would be the only place you can find out the secrets.
Masthead – this vibe magazine is a very old issue from 1994, the masthead font is the traditional font used by magazine however the spacing between the letters is wider than the newer editions, this shows how the magazine has changed and developed over time to make the appearance better. Some of the masthead is slightly covered by the model – Tupac Shakur’s head. The masthead is a basic black colour, black is generally a colour associated with dark, sinister things, the choice of colour for the text reflects the dark theme of the issue which is murder and people being crazy.
Colour – the colours used relate the skyline which says 'The murder of Michael Jordan's Father', the colours used are red, black and a dull beige colour. The red relates to blood, the black is a colour used for dark topics and funerals and the beige makes everything look lifeless. The colour red is used to highlight certain words.
Main Image – the main image is a medium shot of Tupac Shakur
